Dryopteris affinis 'Cristata The King'

Dryopteris affinis 'Cristata The King'

Dryopteris affinis 'Cristata The King' is an impressive hardy fern.  It is clump forming and bears arching fronds up to 1.2m in length. I love the crested tips at the end of the fronds, it really is a feature fern.  Easy to grow and has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit.

  • Common Name

    Scaly Male Fern Cristata

  • Height and Spread

    1.2m x 1m

  • Cultivation

Easy to grow in moist but well drained soil in part of full shade.  It will tolerate more sun if it does not dry out and it will tolerate dry condition in shade once it is established.  To get established, water well in it's first year during dry spells and water in well when planting.  A good much when planting will help to retain moisture levels.

Generally pest and disease free. Very low maintenance with only old or broken fronds need to be removed.  Divisions is possible in the spring.
